Launching an e-scooter safety-training website

Beryl

Brief

Beryl, one of the UK’s leading cycle and e-scooter hire companies, set us the task of developing an interactive scooter training website to help improve and promote the safety of e-scooters nationally. This included bringing their comprehensive training program, developed by Bike Works, to life in a fun and engaging way.

Kicking Off

Our first task was to collate the training notes and condense them into easily-digestible lessons for e-scooter riders on the go. We needed to create a fun and engaging course, but with a strong and serious message of rider safety.

.
.

Engagement

We broke the content down into small topics and designed some simple comprehension quizzes at the end of each topic to challenge the user and keep them engaged. We also built a custom dashboard for the anonymous results of the quizzes so Beryl could see how easily the training was understood by users.

New brand

To give the course its own identity we needed to develop a new name and brand that would complement Beryl’s existing branding. This began with a discovery session with the team at Beryl. With the help of this process we were able to focus on the key values the Beryl team wanted their new training brand to have, and create a brand that was memorable, informative and worked in harmony with Beryl’s own brand.

Illustration

To enhance the content we used Beryl’s illustrations to create bespoke animations for each of the lessons, giving users a visual representation of the topic being discussed.

.

Animation

Each animation was created in After Effects and exported for use with Lottie which gave us the ability to control the animations in response to the user’s actions, keeping the whole lesson flow seamless and a delight to use.

Outcome

Using all the data we collected from our discovery sessions, UX reviews and competitor research and close collaboration with the team at Beryl, we created a high performance, intuitive and engaging training website.
